Organised by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), the theme this year is about connecting with others and letting people know that it is #ITSOKAYTOTALK.
Did you know?
• Across Coventry and Warwickshire, suicide kills more people than road traffic accidents.
• Office for National Statistics figures show that between 2005 and 2015 some 320 Coventry residents took their own lives, about 32 per year on average.
• The latest figures from Public Health England show that in Warwickshire 175 died by suicide between 2013 and 2015.
• Suicide is the biggest killer of men aged under 45 across the UK.
One suicide is one too many
June Simkiss is a Coventry and Warwickshire Mind Wellbeing Support Worker whose sister Helen died by suicide.
She received support from the charity following her sister’s death and now works for us to help others, ensuring her loss is not in vain.
