Wellbeing services from January 2022 onwards  more

Experts by experience

CW Mind uses the phrase ‘Expert by Experience’ when we talk about anyone with experience of mental health problems, and sometimes ‘service user’ when we talk about anyone who has used or is using C&W Mind services.

We need Experts by Experience and service users to be involved in what we do so that we can make our services better – your views, opinions and ideas are valuable!

We want to:
• give people more say on how services are run
• make sure everyone is treated with dignity and respect
• help people understand their treatment and rights

How can I help?

There are lots of opportunities to get involved at all levels of CW Mind (listed below). You can do as much or as little as you want to, and we’ll support you when you need it.

What will I get?

• Our promise that your voice will be valued as equal to that of staff and volunteers
• You will be given all the support, information and training you need for the role you choose
• Out-of-pocket expenses

What can I Do?

Give us your suggestions

Complete surveys/questionnaires; attend forums, groups or feedback/consultation meetings; complete feedback forms; speak to staff directly about ways to improve the service. All these are considered when we plan for the future. You can complete our latest satisfaction survey here.

Gather feedback

Become a representative for others using the same service and pass on their feedback as well. Encourage others to become involved too.

Campaign with us

Take part in local, regional and national campaigns around mental health. In the past, people have been on marches/demonstrations and been invited down to London by National Mind.

Help run a service

Provide information on services to people who could benefit. You could help on our Journey bus, or be available to help others in our drop-ins. You could also provide support to others, known as ‘peer support’.

Contribute to our website

We need people to share their real life experiences to help inform people about mental health, and to let people know they are not alone. You could write a one-off article (with help if you need it) or be interviewed, take photos, or gather other people’s stories

Help with staff recruitment and training

You could help interview candidates as well as helping to give them the training they need to do the job well.

Become a trustee

There are always two spaces reserved on our board of trustees for Experts by Experience. You could be involved in the major decisions about the whole organisation!

Other ways to get involved

If you have any ideas for other ways you could get involved, let us know…and don’t forget, we can give you all the support you need!
